In Horoma's Head 16
Hi everyone,
Almost late on this one. Thought there were 31 days in April 😁
Time for a little heads up for April which went by rather fast... as usual I guess.
To be honest not much has been going on. Or rather it's this type of time where you're full on working on a small amount of tasks, you make progress, but there's not much to show or tell. I have to admit I have a slight decrease in motivation when it comes to side projects lately, but things are moving forward nonetheless, so that's good.

The world of AI and quick modelling 🕹🖥📊
I was recently looking at the NERF technology from NVIDIA and am starting to get really excited on how far AI can go from simple still images.
The end use I can foresee is to build believable context from just a small collection of stills my clients would take from the projects sites. As usual tools that save time on modelling means more time for the creative part where we, as archviz artists, deliver the true value.
So yep, definitely looking forward to playing around with this kind of technology!

The World of Art and Natural Language 👨⚕️🥼🩺
Another big topic when it comes to art generation is what we call "natural language" where we can generate original artworks by just describing them.
Very impressive technology that can definitely be used in the exploration part of any creative process I think. The guys from openai posted some fun results from their own generator called DALL-E 2
The World of Art forgery 🖼🎭🎨
Chanced upon this text while reading a blog post from the Klim foundry (amazing foundry and blog if you want to check it). It goes into extensive details on how hard it is to forge paintings and then goes on to discussing where does the value of art come from. Definitely an interesting read if you're even remotely interested in this topic.

The world of interviews 🙅♀️❓🙅♂️
Even though I love books, there's something about live conversations or interviews that often helps in getting a better grasp of someone's way of thinking in a more natural and organic way. I have no idea if this website is famous or not, but I'm happy someone recommended it to me.
The Talks gather interviews of actors, film directors, singers, songwriters and artists in general. Defintely a good way to read more about artists you already like, or potentially discover new ones that would align to your way of thinking or the scope of questions you're dealing with lately.
The World of physical activities ⚽🏉🛶
The pandemic is over (the restrictions at least) and I moved to a new neighborhood, so the time came to head back to the gym. I won't tell you about my benchpress or squats skills, but there's something I'm happy to reunite with which is : **a f*cking routine**.
Before the pandemic I used to hit the gym 3 to 5 times a week not in order to look like Arnold Scwharzenegger, but rather because it was one of the most efficient way for my brain to disconnect from work. When you work as a freelancer you tend to be obsessed with work. Whether it's because you enjoy it too much, or hate it, it does stay in your mind all the time. But for some reason going to the gym really helped me in letting go of it for an hour or two and focus on much simpler matter. I would either put music or a podcast on, and enjoy my workout.
Having stopped it for a while I could definitely tell the change of rhythm in my days, and the lack of structure that followed. Another bad habit that followed was my skipping of lunch, since I have this tendency of never being really hungry. Going to the gym helped in making me a bit more hungry so that there was a whole ritual of stopping work, going to the gym, coming back to have lunch, get a shower and then getting back to work a bit more energized (or completely dead, depends).
All this to say it's important to find an activity that drives you enough to get a proper break from work regularly, so that you can have more structure in your days. Depending on your social type, maybe you need an activity that includes other people, or maybe you need proper time for yourself.
Either way structure is key when you're freelancing (or even if you're working in a studio with other people) and should not be taken lightly.
That'll be all for this month. Short and sweet I guess.
Next month will be packed with more news as I have a lot of cool stuff scheduled that I can't wait to share :)
If you find this utterly boring and useless, please let me know before unsubscribing 🎀. If on the other hand you do like it, then I'm glad, and feel free to share it with your archviz pals that would maybe like it too by sending them here : https://www.horoma.net/newsletter-subscription
In the meantime, all the best for next month, and don't forget to take time for yourself.
Cheers
Simon
